Back to Home CWD Statement of Principles

December 6, 2013

From its beginning in June 1995, Children with Diabetes has sought to offer education and support to families who have children with diabetes. My goal was to make a difference in the lives of our visitors. My reason was personal -- my daughter Marissa was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of two.

What began as a parental hobby grew into an company, was part of Johnson & Johnson, and is now operating as a non-profit corporation. Our mission and my personal commitment has remained unchanged.

Children with Diabetes, Inc., is committed to upholding our founding principles:

  1. Children with Diabetes will provide unbiased, state-of-the-art, science-based education and support to families living with type 1 diabetes on its web site and at its conferences. We will share with you the current best-practices in diabetes care, we will highlight innovation in technology that can help improve diabetes care, and we will feature exciting scientific discoveries as they are presented at conferences throughout the world.
  2. Your voice will be heard, in our chat rooms, our forums, through our online polls, and our online surveys. Children with Diabetes has demonstrated the importance of peer support, and the opportunities to share your experiences will remain.
  3. We invite support from and encourage participation by all companies involved in making a difference in the lives of our families. The scientists, doctors, and engineers in industry have given us amazing tools that have transformed diabetes care. Their efforts continue, and we are eager to help our visitors learn about the innovation that these companies are bringing to market to help our kids live long, healthy, and happy lives.
