The CWD Friends for Life conference returned to Canada after a one-year hiatus - and it was a wonderful weekend in all respects! The Marriott Gateway on the Falls in Niagara Falls, Ontario served as home base for the weekend event, October 23-25, which drew over four hundred participants largely from Ontario. The weather was chilly, but just about everyone made their way outside for some fresh air and to view the Falls at some point during the weekend. It was a spectacular setting.
Friends for Life Canada 2015 featured three keynote presenters: Joe Solowiejczyk, Andrew Deutscher, and Sebastien Sasseville. While each of these presenters spoke from a different life-perspective, they each emphasized the importance of striking a comfortable balance between all of the things competing for our time and attention on a daily basis. Presenters Natalie Bellini, Gary Scheiner, Jill Weissberg-Benchell, Lorraine Anderson, Barbra Wagstaff, Scott Kyllo, Sarrah Morris, and Mike Riddell additionally offered a wide range of topics, discussions, and hands-on experience for those new to diabetes management, and those who have been at it a long time and are looking for new and cutting-edge ideas. The Nightscout team joined us for two sessions on Sunday, including an installation workshop.
The Youth Program at this conference was huge, with the tween group (ages 9-12) being the largest we've ever had in Canada! To the leaders and staff of all of the age groups - thank you for your enthusiasm, energy, and talent. Your commitment is appreciated by all. The kids had such a great time and learned so much!
To our wonderful sponsors: Dexcom, Inc., Eli Lilly Canada, Animas Canada, LifeScan Canada, Medtronic Canada, BD, Insulet, and Novo Nordisk — thanks for continuing to believe in CWD and for supporting our mission to reach ever more families with life-changing conferences. You make a difference.
Jo Stroud and Kristen Seiz — thanks for all of your hard work with the food and beverage, including all of the carb counts, portion sizes, and attention to food allergies. Despite all of the last minute challenges, you guys got it all done, and did a great job.
Julia Mattingly and Scott Kyllo — thanks for keeping everything at registration and in sessions running smoothly!
To everyone else behind the scenes - you work so tirelessly, with the goal of a seamless conference. Most people don't know how much elbow grease goes into a weekend event. And that's the beauty of it. You have our most humble thanks.
