Saturday – the final full day at Friends for Life - was a day for everyone to relax and have fun together with their friends new and old.
Relaxation means different things to different people, especially in 95 degree heat. Some headed to the parks. Some headed to the Marriott World Center’s spa and quiet pool. Some stayed indoors and enjoyed brunch. Others headed to the main pool and the Family Fun Day sponsored by Insulet. On the green lawn next to the pool, Insulet had a FFL Welcome tent with ice cream and beverages, games, and special guests. For those in the know, PodderColadas and Podderitas could be ordered in both adult and kiddie versions at the pool bar (thank you Insulet)!
Two discussion groups were held just before lunchtime, a panel discussion for T1 adults and their partners, and a parents and teens discussion. Both of these gatherings offered a bit more structured discussion and some much-appreciated closure on the conference activities and conversation. Many thanks to those who led and participated in these groups.
Saturday evening featured three great parties, with DJ Miles and his team providing the dance music for each. The teen dance – always a highlight of the conference – was a Glow Party this year. The teens wore white, which glowed under the black lights décor and made each person stand out in the darkened room. The tween party featured a Star Wars theme, with the most recent Star Wars film playing and lots of cool lighting and decorations, and fun games and music. New this year was the Family Fun Night, sponsored by Sanofi Diabetes. This was for FFLs of any age – little ones to grandparents – and the theme was Tailgate Dance Party. Everyone wore garb from their favorite team, and it was a fabulous evening of dancing, games, music, and camaraderie!
