Special Guest Stephen Dixon

Stephen Dixon is one of the main presenters on Sky News, currently anchoring Sky News Sunrise.

Stephen relishes the challenge of breaking news and has been on air for many significant events. He was the first person in the world to break the news of the dreadful terrorist bomb attacks in London on the 7th of July 2005 and reported live from Russell Square in the following days.

Stephen also anchored rolling coverage of the London Riots in 2011, as well as both the start of the NATO air assault in Libya and the fall of the Gaddafi regime in Tripoli.

He also anchored rolling coverage of breaking news in the aftermath of the car bomb attack at Glasgow airport in 2007, and broke the news of the capture of Saddam Hussein.

Stephen is also accomplished at dealing with the lighter stories on the news agenda, regularly covering showbiz and movie news. He loves his nightly newspaper reviews with guests, which are renowned for their light-hearted banter and good humour.

Stephen hails from a tiny village close to the shipbuilding town of Barrow in Furness, in Cumbria, where most of his family still live. He is fiercely proud of his background and heritage in this working class part of the country, where both grandfathers worked in the shipyard building some of the most famous vessels in Britain's fleet, including HMS Invincible.

His mother is a retired primary school teacher and his father ran his own company helping hospices across the country raise millions of pounds in extra revenue. To Stephen, family is the most important part of life. He is particularly proud to have a very close relationship with his nephew Thomas and niece Isobel.

News and current affairs are clearly Stephen's main interest and his job means he has to be completely across what is happening, seven days a week.

Politics is an area of particular interest and Stephen can often be found in the House of Commons getting the low-down on what's going on from his many and numerous contacts and friends, including MPs from all sides of the House.

When relaxing, Stephen admits to a fascination with anything scientific, especially Sci-Fi and is a big fan of all things Doctor Who.

Although in real life Stephen has to settle for technology from the 21st century, he is happy dealing with anything that beeps when he presses a button.

Stephen was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at age 17. His appearance at Friends for Life UK 2012 is sponsored by ACCU-CHEK.
