The CWD Quilt for Life Display
Hundreds of CWD families from all over the world have sent quilt squares in honor and recognition of their children, to be part of the CWD Quilt for Life. This quilt was first shown at last year's Friends for Life Conference in Pasadena, and it has traveled across the country to different venues, bringing the faces and families of our children into focus for the rest of the world to see. Our quilt squares will fill the Coronado Ballroom. Please take some time to come see this tremendous display of love and dedication to our children.
Grand Opening Reception
Join in the fun and excitement as we kick off the conference with the Grand Opening of the Exhibit Hall, hosted by Aventis Pharmaceuticals, Wednesday evening at 6:30 p.m.! After a day of playing at the pool, traveling, or visiting the parks, there will be nothing better than exploring the exhibit aisles, talking with conference participants and company representatives, and coming away with some new ideas and fun souvenirs. Ballerina Zippora Karz will be on hand to meet-n-greet the youngsters at the IDYA booth. Hot and cold snacks will be served, and a cash bar will be available.
Kids Fun Run
What better way to get the kids off on the right foot than a Fun Run! Join our sponsor Novo Nordisk for a 'once around' the Coronado Springs Resort lake. The event begins at 7:30 a.m. sharp on Thursday, and will be started by Will Cross, who was the first person with type 1 diabetes to walk to the South Pole. Will will be at the finish line to hand out medals to everyone who participates. Kids, teens, and parents can meet Will in the Novo Nordisk booth and have their picture taken with him on Thursday.
You can run, jog, or simply stroll. This activity is especially for children, although parents are welcome to join as escorts. Medals will be presented to all children who participate. If your child wishes to use this as an opportunity to raise a few dollars for the Children with Diabetes Foundation, use the Fun Run Pledge Sheet to collect names and pledges. Breakfast will immediately follow the Kids Fun Run.

Lunch and Learn!Participants from the last two summer conferences suggested that full conference days would go much more smoothly if CWD provided lunch. We are happy to do so! Many thanks to Medtronic MiniMed (Thursday) and SankyoPharma (Friday) for sponsoring this important addition to our conference! Box lunches will be available in the Exhibit Hall. Lunch break is a leisurely 90 minutes. You are required to pick up your children from childcare for lunch. Please take this opportunity to catch up with the exhibitors from whom you'd like more information. It's a great time to ask questions, try out some of the new technology, and broaden your horizons... all over lunch!
Family and Friends BanquetJoin Minnie, Mickey and some wonderful VIP entertainers at this Disney-themed evening event from 6:00 - 9:00 pm on Thursday in the Coronado Ballroom sponsored by LifeScan and Novo Nordisk. This event features a scrumptious buffet dinner right at 6:00, followed by the talents of some very energizing performers (currently a secret, but we will share the news soon)! Disney characters will be on hand right at 9:00 to meet-n-greet your children in the Coronado Ballroom Foyer as they leave the Banquet hall. There will be two sets of 4 characters each (each set 30 minutes in length), so plan to spend some time saying hello to your favorite Disney character. Bring your camera and get ready for the smiles! Please note that families will be asked to leave the Banquet Hall promptly at 9:00 so that the Teens may use the space for their dance.
Teen DanceFollowing the Thursday evening Banquet, teens are invited to dance the night away in the Coronado Ballroom (from 9:00 p.m. to midnight). Music will be provided by a Disney DJ. Snacks and beverages will be provided. Parents need to find someplace else to have fun for the evening (the pool? mini-golf?). This is for Teens Only (ages 12 and older, please)! This very special Teen event is sponsored by Novo Nordisk and LifeScan.

It's Friday Night - What Should I Do?By Request! CWD has not planned your Friday evening! Feedback from last year's conference indicated to us that parents just wanted some extra time to sit by the pool, let the kids play, and TALK! The resort has many areas to kick back and relax, while the kids do what kids do best. Alternately, if relaxing is not your cup of tea, this is the perfect time to head over to Pleasure Island at Downtown Disney®, dine at one of the wonderful restaurants, view the Illuminations performance at Epcot®, or play a round of Fantasia Golf! Whatever you decide to do, be sure to go to bed early - Saturday is a busy day!
Children With Diabetes Foundation Fundraiser EventThis is an all-day Saturday event, sponsored by TheraSense. Start the morning off with a very special Magical Moments character breakfast in the Fiesta Ballroom. Princes and princesses from your favorite Disney stories will be on hand to welcome your family, sign autographs and pose for photos with your children. Breakfast will be healthy and yummy and will extend from 7:30 - 9:30 a.m. (Disney characters will appear from 8:00 - 9:30). Then it is off to the park! Don your conference t-shirt and some sunscreen, and head for Cinderella Castle at Magic Kingdom! Ride Space Mountain and Thunder Mountain Railroad! Be ready to get wet on Splash Mountain! Experience all the attractions, enjoy the parades, and be sure to stay around for the fireworks at dusk! Character meals at the Crystal Palace, Cinderella Castle, and The Liberty Tavern are available; reservations are highly recommended. Call 407-WDW-DINE for reservations (you do need to be a registered hotel guest for reservations).
Sunday at the PoolThe conference is over. Relax poolside at Disney's Coronado Springs Resort and cement those new friendships. Watch the kids play, listen to them laugh and talk, and understand what a special experience this gathering of families and health care professionals has been! Lunch may be purchased poolside at the grill.
