Back to 2007 Conference Report Report from Friends for Life 2007

Snow White! Cinderella! Jasmine! Belle! They were all there at 8:00 a.m., waiting to meet the CWD kids as a new conference day began on Saturday, July 14.

The Education for Children with Diabetes Foundation Benefit Day opened with this very special Magical Memories Breakfast, sponsored by Abbott Diabetes Care. Thank you so much to all who purchased tickets to this breakfast, raising enough in contributions to sponsor ten families for next year's Friends for Life conference! The breakfast was delicious – and the Mickey waffles were so fun! Kids and parents alike enjoyed meeting the princes and princesses, having photos taken, and then heading over to Magic Kingdom for the day.

Special Mears buses took CWD families to Magic Kingdom. It was hot, hot, hot, but the Guest Assistance Cards provided to CWD families by Disney helped all of us manage the heat and diabetes. Many thanks to Disney for providing this valuable service.

CWD was lucky to get VIP seating for two parades, and Jeff and Laura were busy pulling 'purple shirt families' into the special seating area prior to the parade. This was a special treat – and thank you again to Disney for providing this! Both parades were rained on just a little bit, but many CWD families were prepared with ponchos, and a little rain just served to cool things off! The Magic Kingdom fireworks display – Wishes – was an incredible way to end the day.

Many thanks to Abbott Diabetes Care for once again stepping forward as the Platinum Foundation Sponsor, allowing all proceeds from Saturday's event to be donated to the Education for CWD Foundation to support scholarships for future conferences.

CWD families from near and far enjoyed a (hot, sweaty) day at the Magic Kingdom. This was a great chance to put newly learned diabetes management skills to the test -- like estimating carbs while you're soaked from Splash Mountain.
