Special Guest Nicole Johnson
Nicole Johnson, Miss America 1999 and international diabetes advocate, will speak at the Family and Friends banquet, be involved with sessions for parents and kids, and will present "Pregnancy and Diabetes" with Dr. Fran Kaufman.
In addition to her speaking engagement at CWD, Nicole will be available to meet with parents at the Animas Corporation booth. Nicole shares Animas' passion for diabetes education and will use this an opportunity to talk about her challenges and life experiences living with diabetes.
This is just one of many appearances that Nicole makes throughout the country. Nicole travels extensively promoting awareness, prevention, and early detection of the condition. She works as a corporate and government affairs advisor for patient groups and biotech companies, including Animas Corporation, Eli Lilly, and the American Diabetes Association.
Nicole serves as the first Ambassador for the International Diabetes Federation's Life for a Child program, which advocates for endangered children with diabetes around the world. She hosts dLifeTV, a weekly diabetes talk show on CNBC, and writes a monthly web column on Georgetown University's MyCareTeam website.
Nicole is also an author. Her four books include her autobiography, Living with Diabetes, which, in part, chronicles her experiences as Miss America 1999, and she is working on her fifth book on her successful diabetes pregnancy.
Nicole serves on numerous advisory boards including the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Council of Public Representatives and is a past national board member for the American Diabetes Association.
Over the last ten years, Nicole has helped raise nearly $20 million for diabetes research and programs.
She holds a master's degree in journalism from Regent University and is currently finishing an M.P.H. at the University of Pittsburgh. But, she is most proud of her newest accomplishment – Ava Grace born in early 2006.
