Camp Sealth
Fun! Adventure! Friendship!Four hundred acres of woods and beautiful saltwater beach on Vashon Island give campers the perfect setting for camp. Summer days are filled with swimming, boating, archery, crafts, camp outs, cookouts, singing, skits and horseback riding. Campers can choose traditional or specialized programs within 4, 6 or 10 day sessions.
Campers attending ADA sessions experience all the fun and adventure of traditional summer camp; with the additional support, guidance and education provided by a 24-hour medical team of diabetes experts.
Camp Philosophy
The ADA Camp program in Washington State was established with the philosophy that children and teens with diabetes can be successfully mainstreamed into existing traditional summer camp programs. The goal of the American Diabetes Association Camp program is that every camper gains self-confidence, learns new skills and improves diabetes self-management.
Teaming up
The American Diabetes Association works with the YMCA and Camp Fire USA, which are both accredited by the American Camp Association. Campers with diabetes attend the same sessions and participate in all programs and activities with other campers. All programming is organized by Camp Orkila/ Camp Sealth staff; medical management is handled by the ADA. ADA's team of physicians, nurse practitioners, nurse educators and dieticians provide 24-hour support, education, and guidance for campers with diabetes. In addition, this year ADA will be teaming up with Gluten Intolerance Group to provide for campers with both diabetes and celiac disease. A separate menu will be offered and all food will be prepared in a gluten-free environment to accomodate these campers.
