My name is Damon Vailati. I am 22 years old and have Type 1 diabetes. I played Division-1 college soccer and am currently a personal trainer and aspiring fitness model. I was diagnosed at the age of 12 and have experienced both the positives and negatives of this disease. Through all of my experiences with diabetes, I have learned to view the disease as a positive part of my life, although, like everyone else, I have felt depressed, tired, angry, and frustrated with the fact that I developed a disease.
One of the hardest things for me was the mental ups and downs associated with varying bloodsugars. Whether I was at a highschool party or playing college soccer, my moods were always different. However, as I matured and began to exercise more seriously, I learned to use diabetes to my advantage. Primarily, I realized the value of being so regimented at an early age. This has helped me to excel in school, sports, business, and even socially. My goal is to teach others with diabetes and their families about the different ways to feel good and secure about having diabetes. I also have the experience and knowledge to motivate others to look great and excel at whatever you do. Please email me if you have any questions or comments. I hope I can help you beat this disease and feel great.
