Question:

My grandson was found to have an insulin imbalance at birth and was immediately put on a glucose solution drip. Is this an early sign of diabetes or will his levels eventually balance with no further therapy?

Answer:

It sounds as though your grandson had a problem with low blood sugars and not high ones. This is a common problem in the newborn, especially if they are somewhat premature and is not a premonition of later diabetes.
