From Worcester, Massachusetts, USA:
My girlfriend was diagnosed with diabetes about 6 years ago; she is 21 now. She has tried to maintain her blood sugars at a decent homeostasis, and has seen three different physicians or specialists; none can seem to get her to a good balance. How can she figure out how to get better blood sugars?
Encourage your girlfriend to learn as much as she can about her diabetes. If she has not yet met with a diabetes team which includes an endocrinologist, certified diabetes educator nurse and dietitian, then encourage her to do so. She can get information from the American Association of Diabetes Educators concerning certified diabetes educators in her area. Also, there are many excellent books on diabetes available.
