From Maryland, USA:
My 11 year old daughter has Type 1 diabetes. Is it safe for her to get in a hot tub Jacuzzi? My family would like to get one but I heard that it was not good for diabetics.
Hot tubs can be safe, but do have some problems.
- Be sure the water is kept clean. Warmth and bacteria, algae, etc. go together.
- Children get hot and cold easier than adults do. It is a fact of mass. Little children can get very hot--dangerously hot.
- Diabetic complications: some with neuropathy might not feel the heat. This is not likely to be a problem for a child.
