Question:

From Houston, Texas, USA:

In a 40 year old woman, can diabetes give a positive hepatitis C result? Can diabetes raise your liver enzymes?

Answer:

I am not aware that diabetes causes a false positive test for hepatitis C. However, poorly controlled diabetes can be associated with elevated liver enzymes from fat deposition in the liver. This may cause an increase in liver enzymes and can be diagnosed by ultrasound of the liver.
