From Orange City, Iowa, USA:
Members of my college's track team have recently begun to take glucose tablets on a regular basis. They claim that the tablets boost their energy levels and improves their work-outs. What kind of effects would these have on someone without diabetes?
This is a very expensive source of pure glucose, which would not do much of anything. Remember, each tab is only 5 grams of glucose, whereas a can of Coke has 60 grams.
[Editor's comment: Athletes seem to like the glucose tablets because they aren't as filling as having to drink something, but it would take 12 tablets to equal a can of Coke. One glucose tablet is about the same as two Lifesavers. Since they are simply sugar, it doesn't hurt to use them, however. SS]
