From Henderson, North Carolina, USA:

I was diagnosed with diabetes approximately three years ago, and for the last two days, my lower back has been nagging me. Could this mean that the diabetes is starting to affect my kidneys?

Kidney involvement from diabetes is not usually perceived as pain. In fact, the best way to test for it is through laboratory analysis of your urine for a protein called microalbumin.
