Question: From Kalamazoo, Michigan, USA: My 94 year old aunt was diagnosed with diabetes a little over a year ago, and all she was required to do was take a pill and check her blood twice a day, but now her doctors are telling her that she doesn't have diabetes anymore and doesn't need to test her blood sugar levels. Is it possible for type 2 diabetes to just "go away" in elderly individuals? Answer: Maybe some other medicine made the blood glucose higher. Maybe all the levels are close enough that they are leaving a 94 year old alone. Otherwise, is she dieting and exercising like we recommend for early type 2?
