From California, USA:

My niece is 16. Her stomach is very distended. She gets dehydrated often. Is this normal for someone with diabetes?

It might be linked to Autonomic Neuropathy, even though it generally appears in adults and only as a consequence of a long history of poor metabolic control. Ask for a referral to as gastroenerologist.
