From Maple Grove, Minnesota, USA:

What body system does type 1 diabetes affect? How does it affect that body system?

Type 1 diabetes can affect many body systems, including the nervous system, the heart and blood vessels, the eyes, and the kidneys. When blood glucose stays high for long periods of time, these body systems can be damaged. One way to protect these body systems is to keep blood glucose as close to your target as possible. If you are unsure what that target is, check with your diabetes doctor or nurse.
