From Addis Ababa, Ethiopia:

Can people with type 1 diabetes consume alcoholic beverages? What are the side effects of diabetes on sexual intercourse?

Alcohol in a variety of beverages is permitted. However, these beverages should be consumed in moderation, meaning only small amounts at any one time. The reason for this is that moderate to large amounts of alcohol can cause the liver to shut down its production of glucose and leave a person on medication designed to lower glucose very low. One to two drinks per day is not unreasonable in people who can otherwise consume these beverages.

Diabetes may cause difficulty with sexual intercourse. This results from nerve involvement from diabetes. Erections are more difficult to sustain. Fortunately, even if this problem may be present, there are medications that may help to treat this problem.
