Back to Kids' Voices Brittany Lee
Brittany Lee had her first Birthday on July 3, 1999. The following Friday was the day it all started. That evening Brittany was not feeling well and was having a little trouble breathing. She went to sleep early that night and seemed to sleep well. Saturday morning she was having real problems breathing and we took her into the doctor's office first thing that morning. They began to treat her for what they thought was asthma! After two treatments and no improvement they admitted her to a local hospital for more intensive treatment. They began treating her for asthma and giving her Gatorade for her thirst.

The problem continued to worsen and all of the many doctor's on the floor could not figure out what was wrong. At this point she had to be sent by helicopter to a children's intensive care unit at a Tampa Hospital. It was the doctor on the floor who knew almost immediately what was wrong and saved Brittany before it was to late!

Later that evening when we found out that she was diagnosed with diabetes we were shocked! Brittany Lee is now at home and feeling much better. We are adjusting to our new way of life one day at a time and trying to learn as much as possible to assure her a full life of happiness.

Brittany Lee can be contacted by e-mail at we welcome your messages.
