Hi! My name is Laney and I am 5 years old and I go to Kindergarten in Nebraska. I was diagnosed in June of 1996, a month shy of my second birthday. I have three brothers: Tony, Jessie and McCartney. I also have two sisters, Chesney and Kai (who doesn't live with us). We also have two dogs, a cat and a fish.
When I was diagnosed I had been sick for a few weeks and the doctor just kept telling my mom that it was just the flu. My mom and dad wanted them to test me, but he kept telling them that it wasn't hereditary (my dad's grandma and great uncles and grest aunt had it). My mom finally had to get mad and threaten legal action if I did have it. Needless to say he tested me and sure enough I had it.
I use to fight about the shots, but I know they have to be done in order to keep me healthy. I do my own blood sugar tests and I am learning to do my insulin shots. I am the only one in my immediate family with diabetes, but my parents are worried that my younger brother will also end up with it.
I like going to school, playing with my sister and brothers, reading and playing with my animals.
