Hello. My name is Mathew and I am 2 years old. When I was 10 months old I became very sick. I could not eat. All I wanted to do was drink and even that was hard to do. My parents took me to the doctor and my doctor sent us to the hospital for tests to be done. Finally the doctors realized I had Type 1 diabetes. My parents did not know much about diabetes and they were very scared. Now they are still scared when it comes to me but they are handling it.
I have my blood checked four times a day (sometimes more when my mom thinks I'm acting different) and I also have two insulin injections a day. I sometimes give my parents a hard time when they poke or inject me. I hope one day it will get easier.
I wish so much I did not have diabetes, it's very scary, but I do and I know I'll be O.K.
If you would like to share stories, recipes, ideas, or need a friend who knows what it's like to be diabetic, you can e-mail me and my parents at firstname.lastname@example.org.
We hope to hear from you soon,
