I am writing this message for my son Jared. He is 6 1/2 (very important to get the half) and is in the first grade. We live in Bothell, Washington. Jared was diagnozed with Type 1 diabetes in November of 1996. Through the time that has passed, both Jared and I have grown.
From the struggles of the first injections and blood sugar testing to now seeing him do his own testing (I still don't feel comfortable with him giving himself the injections) I have come to realize that we as a family can take it one day at a time. Not everything has been easy. Jared has been admitted into Children's hospital twice with high ketones. Both times were as the result of the flu.
Jared has been able to play T-Ball and enjoyed the experience. Now if we can only get the attention span to be long enough to remember when the ball is hit he needs to react (this happened to everybody). He has asked to play soccer and seems to have learned to kick pretty far. Nothing though can take the place of he Pokemon fever.
We just wanted to say hello to everyone and let everyone know that Jared would like to write to anyone interested in corresponding.
