Alice Jane Gavin was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at 18 months old in June of 1999. Alice is a very outgoing, active young lady. She has a little sister, Hannah who was born five days before Alice's diagnoses. Alice loves Barney, Sesame Street (especially Elmo), Teletubbies and Whimzes House. Alice is very smart (advanced) for her age. She will be three in December 2000. She likes doing puzzles and building with blocks.
Alice Jane handles her diabetes very very well. She tells us which finger she wants tested and where she wants her shots. She has a doll and pretends that she has diabetes too. She will tell us when she is hungry. Every once in a while she asks for a test - at other than normal times - every time we test her when she asks she's either high or low. She is a very healthy eater and loves fruits and veggies.
As her parents, we are always looking for information and other parents to talk to. We also urge you to check out the American Diabetes Association Youth Zone where you can order a FREE Wizdom Kit - full of information and fun for kids and parents. You can e mail us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
