Hi my name is Ryan. I am 14 years old and I live in the Canary Islands (Tenerife) in Spain. I was diagnosed with diabetes on September 11, 2002. I had all the usual symptons, I was drinking alot of water, had lost a lot of weight, my skin was getting dry, and felt very tired all the time. I had no idea that this could be diabetes as nobody in my family has this.
I was then taken into the hospital and was placed in the intensive care unit for 2 days, as my sugar level was over 600. I am now coming to terms with this, as before I knew nothing at all about diabetes. The only thing that I have a problem with is that I cannot eat the same amount of foods which I love, this being Pizzas, Pastas, Hamburgers, drinking coke and things like that. I also now have to control my sport activities as I love football and cannot play as long as I would like too.
I have a little brother called William, he is 8 years old. My father is Spanish and my mother is English. I would like to hear from anyone so that we can not only talk about our experiences, but also talk about other things too!, you can write to me in spanish too as I speak and write in both languages.
