  Back to Kids' Voices Chelsea

Hello. My name is Chelsea, and I have Juvenile Diabetes Type 1. I'm going on thirteen in May, and I was diagnosed when I was nine on October 25, 2001. Quite honestly, I don't remember much of that day, but I do remember bits and pieces. I didn't go to school that day. Instead, I got to go to the doctors. I didn't have to go to the hospital. That's because my mom caught my diabetes early with the signs of bed wetting, extreme thirst, extreme use of the bathroom, and much more. I remember bring a liter of flavored water to school almost every day! And that didn't cure my thirst either. I was blessed; my fourth grade teacher had a husband who is diabetic, and a daughter who is diabetic. And I am extremely thankful for that. When I came back to school a few days later, my whole fourth grade class made a huge banner for me, saying,"WELCOME BACK CHELSEA", with everyone's name signed on with different color's of paint. I still have it today. But it is in storage because my house is getting a bit to small for my family.

Today, I am quite happy. I love talking to my friends on AOL Instant Messenger, and Yahoo! Instant Messenger- even though I'm still having troubles downloading it. I love rock music. Like Green Day. I'm quite obsessed with Billie Joe Armstrong-the leader of the band.

My brother is showing signs of diabetes-and my family and I are quite fine with it. It just means one more diabetic appointment-one more diabetic in my family- and one more reason for testing blood sugars during class.

I hope you have enjoyed my little story.
