Hi, my name is Mark. I am 12 years old. I live in Connecticut. I was diagnosed on May 2, 2002, my grandfather's birthday. Oh, what a birthday present that was!
I was 10 years old and had been sick with strep throat two times in April. My mom took me to the doctor and, after they checked me out and found out that I had high ketones, they sat me down and told me that I was not going to be able to go right home. Instead, I had to go straight to the Children's Hospital in New Haven. So, my mom had to call my dad at work and tell him to meet us at the hospital because they were admitting me. We spent four days there so that we could learn how to do the shots and figure out the carb thing.
Now, I have been using a Deltec pump for the past year and I like it a lot better than the needles. It is easier and I can eat anything I want. The month I was diagnosed, we ended up getting a puppy. His name is Boomer and he isn't so small any more (LOL). I also play basketball. I played football for a year.
My parents, my brother and I have been on several diabetes retreats in Pennsylvania. My grandparents go with us, too, and we have a lot of fun. We learned a lot more about my diabetes and what new things they have come out with to help us take better care of my diabetes.
To contact me, I am at
