Our daughter Rayana is our Hero! She is now three years old weighs 28 pounds and has hair down to the bottom of her back. She is an angel sent to us from heaven.
In August of 2004 Rayana was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. She had not been feeling well for a couple of days. She was vomiting wetting a lot, and just not acting like herself. we decided to take her in to see her doctor. He checked her over and told us that she had a virus that her body had to fight off on its own. We brought her home, but things continued to just get worse. I knew something more was wrong with her in my heart. We brought her into the emergency room that night. They did some tests on her and that is when we received the bad news!
When they said diabetes I was shocked. I knew that adults could have diabetes but I never really heard of diabetes in children much less toddlers. There was so much stuff that we had to learn about this disease. It took so much for me to give her her first injection. I knew this was what was going to keep my daughter alive so I did it.
It is one year and a half later now and she is doing so well. She is taking injections of Humalog for meals and Lantus for nights. She gets about 5 injections per day and thinks nothing of it. This disease has made her the little girl she is today! STRONG!
She has two older brothers that are always looking out for her. They are 6 and 7 years old. They love their baby sister with all their little hearts. We just want to thank you for taking the time to hear our story! If you have any advice for Rayana or our family please contact us at .

October 2006 Update
Rayana is now 4 years old and doing very well. She has a new baby sister Jayda that she is in love with. She is happy to be starting school next fall. She is doing great with everything still and we just hope that she continues to keep being strong like she has been!
July 2011 Update
Rayana is now 9 years old & going into the fourth grade. She is doing very well. She has her diabetes under control! She is testing her blood sugar 4 to 6 times per day. She is still using injections (Lantus, Humalog). She is very active, one of the only girls on her wrestling team, and she also plays softball. We will be walking in the 2011 JDRF walk to cure diabetes and she can't wait! We have high hopes that a cure will be found!
