My name is Isabel and I am now 13. I was diagnosed with diabetes when I was 16 months old. Because I was so young when I was diagnosed I don't really remember anything about being "normal". However, as you can imagine, I know an awful lot about life as a diabetic.
I used to be on syringes, then I went on to 2 pens a day, then 3 pens a day and now I'm on 4 pens a day! I have Novorapid at breakfast, lunch and tea and I have Levemir before I go to bed.
One main thing I've found as a diabetic is that not many people understand and you have to put up with a lot of questions! Out of all my friends only one thoroughly understands me and my diabetes, whereas all the others know the basics but can't understand my feelings. Know what I mean? I believe only other diabetics can really understand your feelings towards the condition because parents, friends and doctors don't have the experience of taking the medication, answering constant questions and having check-ups every 3 months! This is why I'm here, please can someone write to me so that I can discuss things with you!
