My name is Marisa and I am 16 years old. I was diagnosed with diabetes March 8, 2007. I have had diabetes for 3 years and 9 months now. I am currently using a Medtronic MiniMed insulin pump, and I love it so much because it is a lot easier than insulin shots! My insulin pump lady wants to put me on a sensor for my pump to help my sugars be better controlled. Before I was diagnosed, I was always thirsty, going to the bathroom constantly, losing weight, and I was always tired. My mom decided to check my blood sugar and it was 526. She immediately took me to the hospital. I was scared and didn't know what to think, but the people at the hospital were very nice and helpful.
I am currently in the 10th grade at a vocational technical high school in the health occupations program. I want to be a nurse practitioner when I am older and help out other kids like me! I like to hang out with my friends, go shopping, go to the movies, use the computer, watch TV, and when its nice outside go on walks and go swimming. My favorite TV shows are iCarly, The Secret Life of The American Teenager, Pretty Little Liars, Cake Boss, and The Biggest Loser. I have three cats and their names are Sugar, Smokey, and Buttercup and they are all really cute and cuddly! I also have a couple fish that are over a year old and their names are Stripey and Flying Angel. I also enjoy bowling, and love to go whenever I can get the chance! I just recently got my learners permit on November 24 and I love practicing driving whenever I can! I have celiac disease too and I was diagnosed with that in June 2008. So I can't eat anything with gluten in it. It can be VERY hard at times, especially at school and at parties. Lately I have been struggling with my celiac disease and my transglutaminase antibody has been higher than usual. I am trying to get it back down to where it needs to be now.
