Hi my name is Taylor and I have had diabetes since I was 10 months old.
I don't know the exact date but I know that I was only 10 months old. I had just gotten my hepatitis B shot, and then I started acting really weird. In the short nine months that I was normal, I never really cried, even when I was hungry, I just sort of laughed a little until my parents fed me or changed me or whatever I needed at the time. But in less than 24 hours after my shot, I started to scream and cry and I never stopped. I seemed as if I was in pain or something. My Mom and Dad took me to the hospital where they diagnosed me with type 1 diabetes. Nobody in my family had ever had diabetes before, only my Uncle Dan, but he had type 2, and died a few years ago. As of this day, if you look on the bookshelf in my house, you will still see a book entitled "Diabetes for Dummies." Twelve years later. I guess it just means something to my parents. Anyway, My mom and dad had to practice giving shots to oranges, which is pretty normal for the training that had to be done. Whenever mom gave it a shot, she was calm and did it just right, but when dad did it, he shot the thing right through the orange! It was pretty funny! Well it would be if I could remember it!
I took shots for five years, 10 a day for 5 years! But now I have a pump. It is the kind that "Talks" to the meter, and I love it! I see an Endocrinologist named Doctor Wanda. She is a really good doctor! She helped me to get my sugar regulated, after we moved from Minnesota to North Carolina.
I also have a disease called Hashimoto, which is a thyroid disorder. God helps me with both, Diabetes and Hashimoto. It's easy when you think about it that way, that is, God helps me through. Otherwise I feel like the weight of the world is on my shoulders, and I can't possibly handle it all!
I am a Christian, I attend a Baptist Church. David is the Preacher. He is a really good Preacher. We haven't gone there for a year, but it feels like family, they make it that way. I have always done my best to serve God, and I always will.
I have two sisters, no brothers. The big sister, Aschlii (Ashley) and the little sister, Autumn are like my best friends since I am homeschooled. (due to the diabetes...) But my best friend attends church with me, and her name is Alysha Pettry :) We also have three dogs, Harley belongs to Aschlii, Mini belongs to Autumn, and Gracee is my puppy.
I will tell you a little about my family. Aschlii is 16. She wants to be an author, and she is in the middle of a really good book, soon to be novel, right now! Autumn, she is not shy. She is homeschooled like me, she is 10 years old. Mom is the one who stays up all night to check my sugar and make sure that I am good in the morning. Mom is pretty much my hero. I know every girl would say that about her mom, but it's true so what can you expect. Dad, he is a tech. He can fix anything. He works here at home, and in a dealership. He can fix, like I said before, anything. With the exception of a possessed Intrepid. That's kind of an inside joke, and a long story.
And that covers it all I think. God helps me with my problems, and I do my best to share him with others, so he can do the same for them.
If you want to talk to me, I would be glad to hear from you! My E-mail is
