Hi my name is Grace and I live in Arizona. I'm 7 years old and was just diagnosed with diabetes in October 2009. My mom knew to take me to the doctor because I was drinking and going to the bathroom a lot, and I was always tired. My mom grew up with a sister who has diabetes so she sort of knew I had diabetes before I even went to the doctor (and then the hospital). Even though it was hard getting used to shots, I'm pretty used to them now and I definitely feel a lot better now that my body has insulin in it. Because I have to do it so much, I've gotten used to giving myself shots and testing my own blood (my mom and dad put the insulin in the syringe for me and watch as I do it).
I'm in first grade and I really like to read. I've been reading a lot of the Rainbow Magic Fairy books and also like A to Z Mysteries. I take piano lessons and ballet class during the week and on the weekend I've been taking a golf class to learn how to golf (which you can do a lot of in Arizona). I also like to play with my sister Andie. When I watch TV, we've watching Sponge Bob a lot.
I'm the only kid in my school with diabetes, so I'd like to meet and maybe be a pen pal with another kid who has diabetes. I hope to someday get a pump so it'd be cool to hear what having the pump is like.
