Hi my name is Preston. I live in Illinois. I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes on October, 15, 2009. I am 14 now and I was just put on insulin. I had a very dark and black ring around my neck. My mom and I thought it was dirt, but when I tried to wash it off it would not come off. The next day I went to see my doctor and she told me that it was a borderline warning for diabetes. I went back a week later the day the ring was gone. She had told me that I had diabetes. I cried for a long time because I knew that I had not been taking care of my self and not eating healthy. She told me that I got it from my family members because my uncle, dad, grandma, and aunt had it.
I still have diabetes and I'm doing much better than before. The problem is my pills were not doing the job so I was switched over to insulin on January, 14, 2011. I keep myself very active by playing football, basketball, and baseball. I love to play basketball. I have been playing basketball for eight years. My main concern for diabetes is staying in shape and being healthy.
Having diabetes means to me that I need to get control of my life and take care of myself better. It can only get better for the worst as my mom told me. If you ever need someone to talk to about diabetes you can find me on Facebook or at .
