For parents of teens, how involved are you in your teen's daily diabetes management?Poll dates: September 4 - 11, 2005
Total Votes: 207
We were interested in learning about parental involvement in the diabetes management for our teens with diabetes. Based on this week's poll, a majority of parents -- 58% -- remain actively involved in their teen's diabetes. About one-third of teens (32%) are the primary decision makers.
Due to the simplicity of the poll, we're not able to discern how duration of diabetes affects parental involvement. Parents of newly diagnosed older teens might be more willing to cede a majority of decisions to the older teen, while parents of kids diagnosed very young often have a hard time handing over control of the child's diabetes care.
As a parent, it's our job to be sure our kids grow up with the knowledge they need to succeed in life, and for our kids, that means the knowledge of good diabetes care. Remaining involved during their teen years can help.[Return to the current poll]
