What do you think is the hardest part of diabetes?

Poll dates: April 5 - 12, 2017
Total Votes: 58

For years, each year that we ran this poll, the result were the same: by a wide margin, our readers feel that hypoglycemia and the fear of going low is the hardest part of diabetes. This year, blood sugar monitoring came first. Perhaps this is because families are facing challenges getting enough test strips or paying for CGM supplies. We're not sure. We'll run this poll again next April to see if the results are changing.

Insulin pump therapy and basal-bolus therapy with long-acting analogs as a basal insulin have both been shown to reduce the risk of hypoglycemia compared with an injection regimen that uses NPH. Frequent blood glucose monitoring or a continuous glucose sensor can also help by giving you more insight into your blood glucose readings more times during the day. Continuous glucose sensors also offer alarms for both hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia, which can help to reduce the fear of going low.

This table shows how readers have answered this question over the years:
