The rising retail price of insulin has resulted in news reports of people with diabetes rationing their insulin or even going without insulin for several days. This is very dangerous and can result in death from DKA.
While far from ideal, Walmart sells Novolin Regular and NPH insulin for about $25 per vial. These insulins work very differently from the rapid acting and long acting analogs that most people with type 1 diabetes use, so if you find yourself in need of them, be sure to work with your health care team to determine to use them.
