The Robinson Family, Morningside, South Africa
October 9, 2002 - October 24, 2002
Bianca Jade Robinson is 22 months old and was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in March this year, when she was 14 months old.
Adapting to having diabetes and the continual war with glucose levels, food and exercise have been really hard on us (Tina and Robbie), but I think we are coping well. We're so proud of how Bianca has accepted the ongoing pricks and pokes and food restrictions - long may it last.
Bianca was in school when she was diagnosed, but I think the shock to the system must have affected her immunity. Every cold became a pneumonia and she was in hospital almost every two weeks with glucose levels all over the place. We eventually decided to take her out of school and keep her at home for a while. She misses school because she is a very active and sociable little girl. We may send her back next year - we'll see.
Rufus has been with us for about two weeks and Bianca really bonded with him. They injected together and tested together, ate, played and went to bed together. Bianca has lots of fun packing and unpacking his suitcase, dressing and undressing him.
Thankyou for letting him visit us, we will miss him.
