The Cannon Family, Anaheim Hills, California
Madeline, 5 years old, diagnosed 7/23/99
Rufus has arrived! He is very tired from the trip so he is going to rest up.
Rufus goes to Maddie's soccer game.
Rufus visits Maddie's choir practice. Their choir is called "Joyful Noise."
We have Maddie's "My Gym" class. We're going to take it easy today. We've got a busy week ahead of us!
Rufus goes to Disneyland! It was very hot today! A record of 94 degrees! Poor Rufus, that fur coat and corduroy short-alls. He was so hot! Mickey Mouse told us that he has diabetes too! We always knew he was special, now we know why! Pluto the dog took Rufus in his mouth and shook him and shook him just like any naughty dog would! Then Natalie (Maddie's 3 year old sister) had to chase him all around Town Square yelling "Drop him! Drop him!" until he finally did! Rufus' favorite rides were "It's a Small World" - fitting since he's a traveling bear, and "Autopia." Rufus is a crazy driver!
Later in the evening, Rufus and Maddie went to a Daisy's skating party and you guessed it - they had LOW bedtime readings. We corrected them and they both slept very soundly.
Rufus visited Maddie's kindergarten class. He had a great time meeting the kids. We were visited by our local paper the Orange County Register. We hope it will be a good article. Maddie and Rufus were 561 at dinner! Alright you two, what did you get into? It's OK, they were back to 95 at bedtime.
A day at the beach! Rufus, Madeline and Natalie splashed in the water and made sandcastles. It was overcast so Rufus didn't get too hot and he didn't get a sunburn!
We took the day off to nap. The big PADRE Fashion Show is tomorrow!
The big day has arrived! The PADRE (Pediatric Adolescent Diabetes Research and Education) Foundation's annual fashion show is tonight. Maddie will be modeling along with 53 other children with diabetes (plus grown-up professional models too). What a blast! Rufus got his picture taken for the newspaper's society pages! He also got to meet lots of kids with diabetes! Plus he got to meet Nicole Johnson, Miss America 1999. She has Type 1 diabetes too! She told us she has her very own Rufus at home!
We went to Maddie's choir practice and then to a Cinderella tea party. Rufus and Maddie didn't like the finger sandwiches. YUCK! It's time to say good-bye to Rufus. We had a wonderful visit. Rufus is a great house guest. He hardly says a word : )
Have fun in Texas!
