The Kaniasty Family, Temecula, California

Rufus arrived on this sunny Saturday! We were so excited to unwrap the package. Megan immediately noted that he needed a site change and was happy to help him out. Actually, I had been thinking of Rufus in terms of a kid's toy (Megan is 10), and wondering just how "into it" Megan would be. It hadn't occurred to me how helpful Rufus was going to be in easing Megan's anxiety over site changes. She practiced a few times on him, then did her own site change by herself. She hadn't attempted that since she got so nervous and fainted a few months back.

Rufus accompanied us on the 3rd annual Temecula Walk to Cure Diabetes. This was a first for the Kaniasty Family and we're happy to report that we collected almost $1,000 for our efforts. Megan also won first prize (a pizza party) for her T-shirt logo which she designed herself. Our team name was "Megan's Lightening Walkers".

Rufus visited Megan's 5th grade class today. The kid's were happy to sign their good wishes to Rufus in his journal.

Rufus visited Heather's 3rd grade class today. Heather told all about him, and did a demonstration using Megan's Blood Sugar Meter. (She used control solution--no needles). Her teacher read the book, "Taking Diabetes to School" to the class. Heather's classmates were curious, and Heather was happy to share the knowledge she has learned about diabetes from helping her sister these past 2 years.

Sorry Stewart Family, I wasn't able to get Rufus shipped out by Friday. Since he was destined to spend the weekend with us, we unpacked him and took him to Seaworld of San Diego with us. We gave him a dolphin pin and a Souvenier picture with Shamu. Megan and Heather gave him one last goodbye hug, then we sent him on his way!
It's been a great visit! Goodbye, Rufus! Happy Travels!
