We have just recieved Rufus. I took Rufus to one of my basketball games. I showed him to all of my teammates and their moms and dads. They thought he was cool. And he's good luck. We would have lost but we won all because of Rufus! (from Chloe)

I took Rufus to school today. All the kids loved him. The guys thought he was cool, and the girls thought he was cute. I shared with the principal and my peers his story. They were interested in his keychains. Rufus went with us to our favorite Mexican restaurant tonight to celebrate my mom's birthday. Rufus likes Mexican food and birthdays! (from Chloe)

I took Rufus to school again. My teacher acted as if he was hers. Before the bell rang the computer teacher took three or four pictures of me and Rufus. Before I went to bed I sewed him a pillow from a piece of cloth and gave him a fuzzy blanket. (from Chloe) P.S. The sewing's not very good so you can laugh!

Today we took Rufus with us shopping for summer clothes. We told the sales clerk all about Rufus and she thought it was a cool idea. She told all of the other sales clerks about him. She told us she walked in the JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes last year. We had a great day educating people about diabetes as well as enlisting them to join us in the walk this year! Rufus had a fairly quiet day today. He watched t.v. with Chloe this morning, then joined her and her friends Drew and Emily in washing the cars. Chloe's big sister, Fraley, made sure they didn't get Rufus too wet. After dinner and baths they all cuddled together and watched The Disney Channel before bed. Our time with Rufus is winding down and we will be sorry to see him go. (from Christie)
February 25, 2002 Monday
9am Rufus stayed home from school today to rest for the basketball game tonight. The team decided last week that he is their good luck charm so he doesn't want to let them down tonight. 9pm-Rufus was good luck again tonight! The team was sad to hear that Rufus won't be here for the rest of the season. We took pictures and he gave everyone hugs to let his good luck rub off and last for the rest of the season. The games won't be the same without him! (from Christie)
February 26, 2002 Tuesday
Rufus went to work with me today in the Operating Room. I am a Surgical Technologist, and I assist the surgeon during surgery. Rufus caused quite a fuss in the OR. Everyone wanted to know who he was and what he was doing in the OR. Everyone learned about diabetes, the Children With Diabetes website, and of course, about Rufus. They all agreed sending Rufus on his journey was a wonderful idea. He got a keychain from High Point Regional Health System to add to his collection as well as a surgical cap and mask. Rufus also went with us tonight to a Girl Scout meeting. He made lots of friends and helped everyone better understand diabetes. Another successful day of teaching for Rufus! (from Christie)
February 27, 2002 Wednesday
Today is our final day with Rufus. We enjoyed our last little bit of time with him by taking pictures, packing his belongings and relaxing watching t.v. We are thankful that Rufus touched our lives and helped us with our every day endeavor of educating people about diabetes. Good luck in your travels Rufus! We'll miss you!
