The McGuire Family, Toronto, Ontario, Canada
Hi! I'm Connor McGuire. I am 9 years old. I was diagnosed with diabetes in November 2001. I am the only one in our family with type 1 diabetes. I am a twin. I have a twin sister named Melanee. We have 2 cats named Monty (Connor's) and Cuddles (Melanee's). When Rufus arrived in the box, we were really excited. It took Rufus almost two weeks before he arrived in the mail.
We have had so much fun with Rufus. First Rufus came with us to our twin cousins' 10th birthday. In the picture on the next page is Emily, Connor, melanee, Katie, and of course, Coco, my cousin's dog.
I love playing ice hockey and so does my sister. Rufus watched many Toronto Maple Leaf playoff games when he was here. As you can see from the picture, Rufus was a real fan. This was the first time Rufus #6 has traveled to Canada!
Rufus enjoyed a visit to Connor and Melanee's grade 3 class as well as a visit with Connor's nurse who visits Connor daily. Nurse betty was thrilled to have her picture taken with Connor and Rufus. Rufus also enjoyed a school trip on a school bus to meet Connor's pen pal.
Rufus went to Connor's grandma's cottage to help o pen it for the summer. Connor took Rufus for a paddleboat ride, too. Grandma bought a new car and Rufus and Connor went for a ride, too.
Rufus also went with Connor to his 3 month diabetic clinic appointment at Sick Children's Hospital in downtown Toronto.
Rufus is an excellent comfort to children with diabetes. Rufus has gone everywhere with Connor. It has been very special to have Rufus visit, and we hope Rufus can visit again, as well as Ruby. I k now Rufus will have a wonderful time at the next house he visits. We will miss him.
Connor has bought Rufus a special Canada pin for him to wear. Please take care of Rufus and his special pin.
