Back to Rufus Rufus Visits the Olack Family

The Olack Family, McKeesport, Pennsylvania

July and August 2004

Hi! I'm Jamie Olack. I'm 12 1/2 years old and in 7th grade. I was diagnosed with diabetes two years ago in June 2002. I have an insulin pump now, for almost a year. Ruby and I were happy to have Rufus come and visit. We've had a great time while he's been here. He's met so many people at our trailer in Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania (about 60 miles from our home in McKeesport). Rufus also got a chance to meet some of the other kids at our local Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation's picnic at Idlewild Park in Ligonier, Pennsylvania.

JDRF gave me Ruby when I was first diagnosed. Rufus and Ruby also were honorary mail carriers for a day with Mom!

Note from Mom (Judi):
Jamie and Rufus were just featured in the 'Family Team Highlights' for our local JDRF Walk to Support a Cure Through Research. All of Jamie's family, friends, and neighbors keep looking for that cure that will make all of you better soon!

Rufus, it was really fun having you visit. I'm sure you'll be looking forward to the many families you'll be meeting along your travels!

Have fun!
Jamie, Judi (mom), Scott (stepdad), Deanna (sister), Bill and DJ (brothers)
