The Kersting Family, Volga, South Dakota
Hi! My name is James and I was diagnosed last June. I didn't know anyone with diabetes, but have been fortunate to meet and make several friends since.
When Rufus arrived, my mom read the journal to me. I realized how lucky I was… I've only had diabetes since I was seven.
Rufus and I did a lot of fun things. First, we went to our school open house and he met my friends, teachers, and cousins. Second, we rode horses at my cousin's stable/arena. Rufus is a pro! Third, Rufus helped me in my first interview. It was much easier with Rufus at my side.
I'm very disciplined with my diabetes management, but still have problems with 'highs.' I get very sick when I'm high and am considering going to a pump.
I'd love to visit and meet new friends! Just email me at tomsher[@]itctel.com.
Enjoy your travels, Rufus!
