The Gershenson Family, Great Neck, New York
Rufus arrives in Great Neck NY greeted happily by Jake. Rufus hugs Jake and Jake hugs Rufus.
Jake heads off to camp and Rufus heads off to filming of the TV show ED. The show is filmed in NJ and Jake's dad works there. Rufus met Tom Cavanaugh who plays "ED". Tom gave Rufus a director's chair to sit in for the day.
Rufus goes to the Clara Baron Diabetes Camp with Jake. The counselors came to NY to run a camp for the children with diabetes. Jake and Rufus had an awesome time. They went rock climbing in Central Park. They even got to go to the Central Park Zoo.
Today, 8/24/01 Rufus came to diabetes camp. He had a blast! He did a lot of activities. We went to the carousel where he rode high on the horse with Jake. Jake is Rufus' best friend. We then went to Hecksher Playground. Played on the swings and seesaw. Then Rufus jumped on the subway. He rode from 59th to 72nd and then transferred trains to go to 110th street. Rufus did not want to go swimming because he forgot his suit, so he stayed and went fishing. Then we sat for awards. We had a great time at Diabetes Camp!
We loved that Rufus came to Barton Day camp! We will miss him and wish him luck in his travels. - Barton Day Camp.
Rufus visits Giants Stadium.
Thanks to Tom Karlya the DRI will benefit from 'Snoopy' sales donated by Genovese Drug Stores in the Tri-State area. Jake and Rufus attended the kick off in Manhattan. They met and took photos with Roger Bart, Tony award winning actor from the hit Broadway show, "the Producers."
Jake and Rufus visit the Naomi Berrie Diabetes Center to see Dr. Vargas and be placed on the continuous glucose monitor. They both had an A1C of 6.2! Dr. Vargas was pleased to meet Rufus.
Rufus joins Jake to see the Broadway show "Annie Get Your Gun". This was their final performance.
Goodbye Rufus, have a safe journey on your way to the Bronx, NY to see Jordan. We will miss you.
Right before Rufus was about to leave, Jake received his first Glucowatch! Rufus got to wear it awhile. We are all screaming with joy and excitement. I think Rufus brought us luck on his visit!
