The Howard Family, Wayland, Michigan
Michael, Teresa, Taylor, Brandt, and Sean Howard in Wayland, Michigan
December 18, 2001
Rufus arrived in Wayland, Michigan, at the home of Michael, Teresa, Taylor (9, dx'd at 4), Brandt (6), and Sean (3) Howard. Taylor was at school when Rufus arrived, so to surprise her, I took Rufus up to school just when Taylor was coming to the office to test for lunch with her health aide, Mrs. Hohnke. Taylor was very excited to see Rufus and was able to keep him with her at school for the rest of the day. When they got home, Taylor introduced Rufus to her Ruby bear. Taylor, Rufus, and Ruby then went to Taylor's dance class where they had a Christmas party.
December 19, 2001
Taylor had school again today, so Rufus stayed home with Ruby and they spent the day getting to know each other. Later after dinner, Rufus and Ruby joined Taylor at CCD class (religious education). They made Christmas cards.

Today was a very busy day for Taylor, Ruby and Rufus. Taylor went to school for awhile, then she had to come home to do a T.V. story for one of our news stations about herself, her diabetes, and Rufus and Ruby. It was a lot of fun. It will air on television on Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2001. Taylor then went back to school and after school, we went to get Taylor's eyes checked. Everything turned out great. After the eye appointment, Taylor, Ruby, and Rufus went to Taylor's Girl Scout meeting. We had another Christmas party and exchanged gifts. Ruby and Rufus got their pictures taken with Junior Troop #134.
December 21, 2001 Rufus stayed home today because he had to help pack for our trip to Orlando, Florida! When Taylor got out of school, Rufus, Ruby, and Taylor's whole family including Grandma and Grandpa Kopulos jumped in the van and headed for Florida.
December 22, 2001
We drove all day and stopped for the night just outside of Birmingham, Alabama. We should get to Florida tomorrow night. Taylor's blood sugar was a little high sitting in the van so we adjusted her basal rate.
December 23, 2001
It was a long day, but we finally arrived in Orlando at 10:00 pm. Since it was such a long day, we unpacked, said "Hi" to Taylor's Uncle Paul, who we went to visit, and then went to bed.
December 24, 2001
It is Christmas Eve! Since the kids have not seen Santa yet, we went to the mall and had their pictures taken with Santa. The weather is nice today, warm and sunny. Tonight we will do a Kopulos/Howard family tradition and open one gift.
December 25, 2001
It's Christmas Day! After everyone got up and around, we walked down to Uncle Paul's to open gifts and have dinner later that day. The weather turned bad, it was cold and rained most of the day. The kids got some nice gifts, though. Taylor and Brandt finally got the Game Boy Colors they have been wanting.
December 26, 2001
It is still cold. No shorts for us this trip. We went to see the movie Jimmy Neutron-Boy Genius. It was really good.
December 27, 2001
Today we went to the Kennedy Space Center. It was really neat. The kids had their picture taken with Astronaut John McBride. We saw an IMAX movie about what it would be like to live in outer space and also saw a fun show about Mars, where Taylor and her Grandpa Phil got to be volunteers to help with part of the show. It was a fun day, cold, but fun.
December 28, 2001
Today we went to Downtown Disney and saw the movie Harry Potter. It was great!! Taylor has already read the first three books and we are reading the fourth one now. We leave for home tomorrow. The weather is still cold for Florida. We did have an exciting evening. Taylor, her two brothers, and Grandma Carol were going to go use the hot tub when Sean, Taylor's 3 year old brother got out the door before them and decided to pull the fire alarm! We had to explain to the tenants and the fire department what had happened. I guess we just had to end our trip on a high note, and boy were those alarms loud!
December 29-31, 2001
We headed home Saturday afternoon and arrived home at 1:30 am on Monday. We also arrived home to over 20 inches of snow! There was none when we left!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!! We have had a great time having Rufus visit with us and go on our trip to Florida. We hope Rufus has just as much fun with the next family he visits! Bye Rufus, we will miss you!

Rufus has already left, but our local paper, the Penassee Globe, came to our house today to do a story on Taylor and Rufus.
