Hello. I'm Dr. Peter Chase. I'm with the Barbara Davis Center for Childhood Diabetes in Denver, Colorado. I'm probably best known amongst families for writing the Pink Panther educational books related to diabetes.
You can gather facts about diabetes from a book, but when families what to share feelings or experiences, other methods of communication are important. The
Children with Diabetes Web site has become a major means of communication between families and approximately 25,000 people go to the Web site each day to share feelings and experiences.
Likewise the Friends for Life conferences started approximately 6 years with about 1100 attendees, and last year had about 2500 family members attending and sharing experiences and the latest developments in diabetes.
Both Jeff Hitchcock and Laura Billetdeaux, who have managed the Web site and the conferences through the years are extrememly dedicated and hard working people. They will now have increased staff and with the new and increased support I am confident that further growth and development of both the Web sites and the conferences will continue. I am proud to be involved with Children with Diabetes and very excited about its future.
