My Pancreas Needs Glasses is a charming book for younger children with type 1 diabetes. In it, a boy and his younger brother learn that there are many people in the world who are “different.” One person has a heart condition; one has a thyroid condition; and one has a prosthetic leg. They have a conversation with a neighbor who has diabetes, among other conditions. It is this man who says he no longer tells people he has diabetes, but that his “pancreas needs glasses.” Highly recommended for children 6-10 and should be added to those books presented to classes at elementary schools.”My Pancreas Needs Glasses” is a fun and warm hearted story about two brothers discovering that there are many people in the world that are challenged with illness, physical limitations, and other health related conditions – and how they are really no different when it comes to living full and happy lives. The brothers are actually my sons, one who has had Type 1 Diabetes since he was 21 months old.
