Speaker Spotlight: Richard Vaughn

Richard Vaughn was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 1945 at the age of six. He has lived with type 1 diabetes for 73 years, and does not have any of the serious diabetes complications.  Communicating online, and in person, with other people with diabetes is one of his favorite things to do. “The best part of Friends For Life is the opportunity to meet other type 1 individuals, and their families, to get to know them and share experiences. Whether you’re a returning camper or new to the camp experience, diabetes camp is a place where being a kid with diabetes is the rule, not the exception.  Connect with other kids and share the fun of summer camp while managing diabetes under the care of dedicated, educated staff. Looking to Loop?

While many diabetes device companies are working to make closed loop artificial pancreas systems commercially available, people with diabetes are not waiting.  Patient and caregiver led design groups have been working hard to bring to life several versions of a do-it-yourself artificial pancreas system that patients can create using existing insulin pumps and continuous glucose monitors alongside a community coded, open source algorithm. Aaron J. Kowalski Appointed as JDRF President and CEO

According to a press release from April 9, the JDRF Board has appointed leading diabetes researcher and advocate Aaron J. State of Diabetes Briefing on Capitol Hill

On Monday, March 11, 2019, Children with Diabetes, in partnership with ten other organizations, will brief new members of Congress and their staff on the state of diabetes in the United States. The briefing will be held in Room 2168 (Gold Room) of the Rayburn House Building from 2:30 to 3:30 pm. Lilly to Introduce Lower Priced Humalog Insulin

According to a recent press release, Eli Lilly and Company will introduce a lower-priced version of Humalog, with a list price 50% lower than that of the current Humalog.
