According to a press release from April 9, the JDRF Board has appointed leading diabetes researcher and advocate Aaron J. Kowalski, Ph.D. as their new President and CEO.  Dr. Kowalski  is the first person with type 1 diabetes to lead the research organization, and he brings more than 30 years of lived experience with T1D to the table.

“I stand on the shoulders of Derek Rapp and those who have come before me, as well as the volunteers, donors, senior leaders and staff who have put in countless hours to bring us closer to potential cures. Together, we will build on our significant progress to drive forward with urgency, new research that presents a line of sight much more promising than ever before to cure, prevent and treat T1D and its complications,” said Dr. Kowalski in the press release.

“I’ve had the pleasure of knowing Aaron Kowalski for many years and am thrilled to learn that he is JDRF’s new President and CEO. I know of no one who has worked harder to make a difference in the lives of people living with type 1 diabetes than Aaron. We in the type 1 community look forward to even more success from JDRF with Aaron in the lead,” said Children with Diabetes President, Jeff Hitchcock.
