Diagnosis and Symptoms

My 14 month old daughter has been drinking what I think is a lot of water, but since she is in diapers, I can’t tell if she’s urinating more. I would like to do a finger stick test on her, with my monitor, but I don’t know what the normal glucose readings of a 14 month old are. What is the normal volume of water a 14 month old infant should be taking in?

My seven year old daughter has had some elevated glucose readings after meals, and her pediatrician said that she needed to be checked only if her fasting readings were high, but they are okay. If my daughter’s fasting glucose levels are normal but her after eating levels are somewhat high, should I be concerned?

My husband has hypoglycemia which he controls by diet only, and he cannot do any form of exercise because he will look like death. I’m wondering if he has LADA. If so, what can be done? How can he be officially diagnosed? Is there medication he should be on?

My six year old son wanted to test his level on my meter so I let him, and his reading was 239 mg/dl [13.3 mmol/L] on an empty stomach. Should this one reading be enough of a concern to inform his doctor? Is it pretty “normal” to have a reading like that with just a random test?

My 17 year old son, diagnosed with probable type 1 diabetes almost nine months ago, has had no insulin now for eight months with normal readings. We just had blood work done, and his fasting blood sugar was 92 mg/dl [5.1 mmol/L], two-hour post-prandial was 110 mg/dl [6.1 mmol/L], and A1c was 4.6%. Could he still be in the honeymoon phase? Is it possible he has type 2 diabetes and can control this with diet and exercise?

My 26 month old son was overeating along with drinking more than 64 ounces of fluid per day and sweating for no apparent reason. A blood sugar after eating was normal, and the doctor said this shows he does not have diabetes. What do you think is going on? Could the readings have been raised due to what he ate?

My four year old little girl will be tested tomorrow for diabetes, I really do not know all that much about it, even though I am reading, and I am not sure how to help her with it. How do you tell a child her age about this? Help — I’m going nuts here.

My ten year old son has frequent body odor, and it doesn’t seem to matter if he wears deodorant or not.I have been told this could be a sign of diabetes. He is overweight, and sometimes lethargic but doesn’t really have any of the other symptoms. Should we have his blood sugar levels tested?

There is a large history of diabetes in my husband’s family. The doctor told me my daughter was too young to have diabetes, but I have watched her for a month and seen how she reacts when I change her diet so I can’t help but wonder. How do I get the doctor to test her? Am I wrong in suspecting she may have it?
